Nancy Stauch is a Lecturer in the Liberal Studies department, Coordinator of the Secondary Education Program, and Science Education Advisor at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Nancy teaches courses that support science education, including secondary science methods and the physical science series for pre-service elementary teachers. She earned a Master’s in Educational Leadership from California Polytechnic State University in 2008.
Her research interests include enhancing the implementation of co-teaching during the clinical experience and investigating the impact of undergraduate science coursework and lab experiences on future teaching. Her recent work has been published in Teacher Education Quarterly and The Handbook of Research on Teacher Education and Professional Development.
Nancy also actively contributes to grant activities focused on improving teacher preparation programs, including assisting in the development of an observation protocol and tool for university supervisors, facilitating co-teaching workshops for teacher candidates and cooperating teachers, and supporting co-teaching pairs in the implementation of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). In addition, Nancy provides professional development for in-service teachers in creating and modifying curriculum to align with NGSS.
Prior to coming to Cal Poly, Nancy was a middle school science teacher for 20 years. During her time in the classroom, she hosted 17 teacher candidates, planting the seed for her interest in teacher preparation.
